Fire Fatality

  A Johnson City woman died today in a fire at her mobile home, located on South Roan Street. A neighbor’s brave efforts partially extinguished the flames, prior to the arrival of the fire department. The Johnson City Fire Department responded with three engines, two ladder companies, two command units, and three fire marshals, placing 18 personnel on scene. With the fire department’s four minute response in icy conditions, the scene was under control in five minutes after arrival. There was minimal fire damage to the residence, but smoke damage was moderate.

  The origin and cause of the fire are undetermined and under investigation. The name and age of the victim have not been released at this time.

 The Johnson City Fire Department was assisted on scene by WC/JC EMS, Johnson City Police Department, Johnson City Fire Marshal Division, Elizabethton Electric System and the Carter County Coroner’s Office.

JCFD House Fire

   Nine members of a Johnson City family were displaced this afternoon, as a result of a house fire at 1405 E. Myrtle Avenue. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and high heat during search and rescue operations of the incident. Two truck companies dispatched to the incident provided ventilation, to assist with the engine company operations. All of the occupants were evacuated from the structure and the fire was brought under control in thirteen minutes.

   A family member stated that there were no smoke detectors in the home, at the time of the fire. The family puppy was rescued by FF Raymond Ferguson and delivered to the occupant. There were no injuries reported in the incident. The structure and contents received moderate damage.

   The Johnson City Fire Marshal Division was summoned to the scene to assist with the origin and cause of the fire, which is under investigation. The family is being assisted by the America Red Cross.

   JCFD responded 3 engine companies, 2 truck companies, 1 command unit, and 2 fire marshals to the scene.

   JCFD was assisted by WC/JC EMS, JC Police Department, and JC Power Board.

House Fire

On Thursday, January 17, 2013, The Johnson City Fire Department responded to a house fire at 504 E. Ninth Ave.

Units arrived on the scene in three minutes and found light smoke inside the house.

Heavy wet snow had caused a short circuit of the service line coming into the house. The power was disconnected by the Johnson City Power Board and the small smoldering fire was extinguished by the fire department.

The JCFD responded with 3 engines and 2 ladders with a total of 14 personnel.

No injuries were reported.

Business Fire 2011 N. Roan St.

On Thursday January 17, 2013 at approximately 2:00 pm, the Johnson City Fire Department responded to a business fire at the Johnson City Mall.

An alert security guard for the Mall had noticed light smoke inside a service corridor.

 

Upon investigation it was found that there was a small fire in the wall of the corridor. The wall was opened and the fire was quickly extinguished by the Johnson City Fire Department.

Only a few businesses adjacent to the corridor were evacuated as a precaution. Business was resumed within approximately thirty minutes.

No injuries were reported and minimal damage was sustained.

 

Five engines and three ladders responded with a total of 22 personnel.
