Johnson City FD responds to structure fire with victim rescue

The Johnson City Fire Department responded three Engines, two Ladder companies, and a command unit  to a structure fire at 1407 E Watauga Ave on 20 Sept 12. Dispatch time was 16:24:36. The first unit on scene arrived at 16:28:07 to find a smoke involved residence with fire venting from the left side of the structure and from two windows.

One crew initiated an aggressive interior attack containing the fire to one room. Another crew rescued an elderly woman (age unknown at this time) that had succommed to the smoke. The patient was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital by Sullivan County EMS as Washington County EMS units were assigned to the school bus wreck on Mt. Wesley Rd.

Preliminary investigation assumes the fire to have begun in the bedroom area. Fire Marshals from the Johnson City Fire Department are still on scene conducting an ongoing investigation as to the cause of the fire.

It is reported that eight children and three adults lived in the residence. The American Red Cross is providing aid to the family.
