Grower's COOP Wharehouse Fire 13 May 12 in Johnson City TN

At 12:26:34 on 13 May 12, the Johnson City Fire Department received an alarm for a fire at the Grower's COOP Wharehouse located at 1010 W Main St in Johnson City, TN.  The first arriving unit, (arrived at 12:28:46), reported heavy smoke conditions with 50 percent flame involvement. The fire rapidly spread throughout the open-design facility. Fire operations were defensive due to the rapid fire spread and high heat conditons. On scene tactics were to protect exposures from igniting due to the radiating heat conditions. By the time second alarm units arrived, the building structure had collapsed. The Auto Zone and nearby gas station were evacuated. There were no reported injuries. The incident is being investigated by the Johnson City Fire Marshal's Office. Heavy machinery was planned to be used to remove the fallen metal roof to permit firefighters to reach and to extinguish remaining hot spots. A call in of off duty departmental members was necessitated by the event as 7 Engines, 2 Ladder Trucks, a rehab unit, and 4 officer vehicles responded to the incident. The Johnson City Police Department provided traffic control and the Washington County/Johnson City EMS provided rehab monitoring to onscene firefighters.
