Johnson City Fire Department responded to a reported Apartment fire at 2305 S. Greenwood Drive #8. Smoke was visible to responding Apparatus prior to arrival on the scene. Four Engine companies, two Truck companies, two Command Units and a Rehabilitation Unit for a total of nineteen personnel were dispatched. Entry into #8 was forced and a quick search revealed no one was at home. Two 200’ pre-connected 1.75” attack lines were deployed upon arrival for fire attack. Engines and Trucks were placed in the front and rear of the structure for fire containment. Initial control of the fire took approximately 10 minutes. Over haul of the scene or the search for fire extensions revealed a void or utilities chase that extended to the attic area. The fire started in the kitchen area. The fire was able to extend to the attic by way of the utility chase. The property damage was minimized and contained to three units because of an aggressive attack by fire personnel.  Two units received minor smoke and water damage while one unit received heavy fire and water damage. Occupants of #7 and #9 were evacuated unit fire was extinguished. No one was at home at #8 at the time of the fire. 

 

Discarded smoking material in garbage can has been determined as the cause of the fire.
