Subject: House Fire 107 Tangancy Drive
On November 02, 2011 the Johnson City Fire Department, Engines 6, 5, 8, Trucks 1 and 3, responded to a house fire at 107 Tangency Drive at approximately 9:00 pm. The owner/resident advised 9-1-1 dispatch that there was a faint smell of smoke coming from the attic of the home. Units arrived on scene (within 3 minutes) to find nothing showing from the exterior of the house but could smell the odor of smoke. Shelving was removed to gain access into the attic through a small opening in a bedroom closet. A TIC (Thermal Imaging Camera) was deployed and a small fire was found smoldering under the insulation in the kitchen area of the attic around the ceiling light. The fire cause was determined to be an electrical short in wiring connected to the ceiling light over the dining area of the kitchen. Truck Company personnel deployed salvage covers to protect the contents of the home and then removed insulation and pulled the ceiling from around the fire area to check for extension. No fire extension was found. The electrical wiring was pulled back, secured and power was cut to the specific wires to keep from cutting power to the entire house. Damage to the home and inconvenience of the occupants was kept to a minimum. The home was turned over to the owner and occupants. All units cleared the scene.
