Johnson City Apartment Fire 04-19-16

On Tuesday 04-19-16, Units from the Johnson City Fire Department were dispatched to the University Edge Apartments on a kitchen fire.

The call was dispatched at 6:05 pm and the first unit arrived 3 minutes later.

The occupants had been frying a turkey on the stove when the oil in the pot caught on fire. The fire was hot enough to activate a sprinkler in the apartment.

The sprinkler extinguished the fire.

Smoke detectors alerted all occupants in the complex.

Smoke and water damage was reported in the involved apartment and water damage occurred to the apartment directly below.

Four Engines and Two Ladder Trucks and one command vehicle responded to the incident with a total of 17 personnel.

There were no injuries reported.

 

Smoke detectors paired with an active sprinkler system was responsible for an early report of the incident as well as a quick extinguishment of the fire.

Johnson City House Fire 04-14-2016

The Johnson City Fire Department responded to a house fire at 6:30pm on Thursday 04-14-2016.

The house was located at 1421 Piedmont St.

Prior to arrival, units were advised that a building behind the house was on fire and that it was extending to the house.

First arriving unit reported heavy black smoke from approximately a half mile away. The first unit arrived within 6 minutes from the time of dispatch and advised that the outbuilding was completely involved and the rear of the house was on fire.

The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes.

No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported.

4 engines, 2 ladder trucks and a command vehicle with a total of 16 personnel responded.

The JCFD was assisted by the Johnson City Police Department and WC/JC EMS.

The fire is under investigation by the JCFD Fire Marshal’s Office.
