Wednesday, May 14, 2014
Structure fire at 80 New ST
The Johnson City FD responded to a fire at 80 New St on 13 May 14. Responding companies were dispatched at 18:06:35. The first arriving Engine Company reported a working fire at 18:09:16. Crews had a quick initial knockdown. The fire had at the time unknowingly spread to the walls and attic causing the request of additional companies to arrive for mitigation purposes. The fire attack was hampered by construction features of the residence including plywood ceilings and walls. There were no civilian or Fire Service injuries. The cause of the fire is undetermined after an investigation by the Fire Marshal's Division. The investigation is ongoing. The fire began in the laundry room of the house, with about fifty percent of the house sustaining extensive fire damage.
Five Engine Companies, Two Ladder Companies, a Command Vehicle, and a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus support unit were sent to the scene. Crews remained on scene until 21:34:55. Seven family members were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross was dispatched to the scene. Johnson City/Washington County EMS was also on scene providing support to the Fire Department.
