Johnson City Fire Department responds to vehicle crash versus house

The Johnson City Fire Department received an alarm for a vehicle crash versus a home at 03:43:18 on 20 Mar 11. The incident location was at Briarcliff Road and Sells Ave, Nathaniel Court Apartments. An engine company and a ladder company responded at 03:43:43 and arrived on scene at 03:47:19. Other agencies involved in the incident mitigation included Johnson City Washington County EMS, the Johnson City Police Department, the Johnson City Power Board, and support services from the City of Johnson City Building Department to investigate structural integrity issues. Electrical power to the first and second story apartments had to be disconnected. 
Two patients were taken to the hospital. The resident of the occupancy was removed and transported first due to the severity of injuries. The driver of the vehicle was extricated via roof removal of the car. The JCFD assisted in the removal of the vehicle from the apartment complex. The Johnson City Police Department is still investigating the incident. The scene was released to the property manager.

Johnson City Fire Department is awarded $180K Equipment Grant

 

The Johnson City Fire Department has been awarded an operational grant from the 2010 FEMA /Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The $180,264 grant will be used to enhance firefighter safety and efficiency through an upgrade of the Fire Department’s Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) program and by the purchase of communications headsets for use in the Fire Engines. The grant allows for the modernization of Firefighter’s “air packs” to a lower profile, lighter and more efficient device. The Fire Department’s grant writing committee, headed by Firefighter Kevin Haynes, strives to attain grant awards that increase the feasibility of equipment purchases that improve safety and the quality of service to the citizens of Johnson City. Firefighter Haynes states that grant application process “is a team effort”. The Grant Committee members are Firefighters Kevin Haynes, Joe Cantrill, Jonathan Fulmer, David Sprinkle, and Ted Leinaar.
